Sooo hey there oppo, long time no see. I’m about to pull the trigger on an ‘84 Sunrader, a glorious 4600lb fiberglass rv sitting on a 1 ton Toyota truck chassis, with a 22re and a manual for max jalop points.
The rv part is a project, it needs a serious shagcarpetectomy, so I’d rather be sure the vehicle is solid. Never had a PPI done on a car so old, can I just take it into any shop? Anyone know a good shop for old Japanese awesomeness south of Seattle (Kent/Auburn/Federal Way type area)?

I don’t have any recommendations unfortunately.
But, how slow is that? I’ve got a ‘94 pickup and it sure isn’t winning any speed contests, can’t imagine how it’d feel carrying that much extra weight.

Unfortunately, my last mechanic was a butt so I haven’t any recommendations
BUT
The amount of fanaticism surrounding the 22RE makes the internet an easy and valuable resource.
I’ve owned a 20R, 22R, and a 22RE. The main thing on the 22RE is that some of them may have timing chain guides that wear out, causing the chain to eat the back of the water pump and blow the head gasket.
And the MY of the motor is important. Parts of early (like 1981-84) 22REs are NOT interchangable with the updated 22REs (like the one I had in my ‘85 Celica). Do as much homework as you can!
Spaceball likes Mark’s Japanese Auto in Kirkland. Too far north of you but that’s all I can think of.

Yeah normally I would just buy it and use the forums, and it only has 40k miles so I can’t see a reason why it would have anything wrong with it. Starts on the first crank and drives beautifully. But I guess I’m just nervous about something this big being broken and sitting parked for too long, i feel like neighbors would care more than they do about my usual fair of shitty little hatchbacks.

The good news is you won’t have nearly as much cabin rot or roof seperation as you would with a dolphin or a minnie winnie. If you want help or a brain to pick, i have a bit of experience with these beasties.
